Movie Reviews.

Haven’t done one of these in a while.
Reality Bites: Meh. It’s one of those “coming-of-age-after-college” movies, sort of like St. Elmo’s Fire, except not as nice. It did have funny moments, And Ethan Hawke is pretty cute, so there’s that.
Moulin Rouge: So I watched after I kept hearing how awesome it was. I really liked it; the song renditions, the theatrics of it all, and of course Ewan McGregor, I love him so much. I still like Chicago more (not that you can really compare the two, but I felt I needed to point that out). If you haven’t seen it, I’d recommend it for fun.
Fargo & No Country for Old Men: I’ll do both in one since they’re both done by the Coen brothers. I have mixed feelings on Fargo. Really I only watched it because Steve Buscemi was in it, and I usually like his films, and I did hear great reviews on it. It has an interesting plot, I don’t want to tell you about it because that’s part of the whole surprise of watching the film. It’s just that, something about the film by the end seems unfinished, I don’t know why. It has its funny moments. Really I think this will be something you’ll love or hate. Ok, now NCFOM I didn’t really like at all. I expected I would because I remember when it was nominated for multiple Academy Awards and the premise looked really good, but I just couldn’t stay focused on it; I’d drift in and out of the movie. I’ll give it another chance someday. Sidenote: Watch The Big Lebowski. It’s a very entertaining movie that would recommend that’s also done by the Coen brothers.
Goodfellas: Watch this movie. It was on my list for months, and it was on AMC last week. Watch this movie. So good. I am a little biased because I love anything that Scorsese does, but it’s still a really good film, especially if you like gangster films. Watch this movie.
Food Inc.: This movie will have a similar affect on you that Super Size Me did, so if you don’t want to know about the food from the grocery store (predominantly the meat), then don’t watch the movie. Aside from that, it was very eye opening. So if you’re curious, here you go.
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest: Let me begin by saying, Nurse Ratched had it coming. Now, that being said, I really liked this movie, makes me wish I read the book first. So it’s a story about this inmate that gets sent to a mental institution to be evaluated, even though he has no signs of being mentally unwell. I thought the actors portraying the mental patients did a really good job, especially the one playing Cheswick. Haha, I actually found myself relating to Nicholsons’ character. You see in the beginning how frustrated he gets because he’s around these people who can’t make sense of what he’s trying to tell them, they’re stubborn, and frequently act like children. It kind of reminded me of being around my grandparents. It was very humorous, even though it’s a drama, with Jack Nicholson you’re guaranteed a few laughs. However, it got progressively sadder as it neared the end. Well not sad, but more like “I would’ve been happier if that didn’t happen” kind of thing. So yea, I really liked it. I recommend it. Oh and it has a young Danny DeVito and Christopher Lloyd (you know, Doc in Back to the Future) in it to, so there’s that.
The Silence of the Lambs: I just finished watching this one. It was interesting, I didn’t love it, but I liked it. I probably would’ve liked the story more if I had read the book. At least now I understand the phrase “It rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again”. Others might like it more than me, so if you find serial killers, and the people who try and stop them interesting, then you’d most likely enjoy this.
And there are my movie reviews for the month.
